Avoid AI inside of your todo lists
Attention is all you need? How ironic.
Jatabag is for humans first.
The entire concept of Focus is distinctly human.
Jatabag will never, ever foist AI into its app.
That said, Jatabag is already AI enabled, you can use your agent with it immediately.
Be advised, LLM integration is an antipattern
We cannot stress enough that using AI to create your todo lists will degrade its utility.
It's tempting to use AI to create our task lists for us, but if an AI domineers your Focus, Jatabag will not be as useful, because doing so is:
- Unfamilar: You didn't write the tasks, so you don't remember them
- Askew: The tasks are not written the way you would write them
- Unfullfilling: Would you get the same satistfaction from being ordered to do something, vs willing yourself to complete it?
We implore you not to use AI to edit Jatabag's todo lists. If not for yourself, for Jatabag itself; we want this app to put its best foot forward.
If it underscores the point, Jatabag had many features scoped for AI integration, and we abandoned them all. Those features did not help us internally.
That said, it's shockingly easy to integrate
AI will never be directly integated, but you can bring-your-own AI, so long as it is equipped with tools (i.e. run from a desktop computer's AI app). For instance, this prompt:
Take this todo list:
https://jatabag.com/tree/abc-123-def-456
add add the process for buying a new car.
That's it. No MCP. No skills. No piling on weird nondeterminisic workflows or issuing subagents. It just works.
Here's what it produced this time:
Sample AI list:
# Buy a new car
- Set budget and financing
- Review finances and set a maximum out-the-door price
- Check credit score
- Get pre-approved for an auto loan from a bank or credit union
- Decide cash vs. finance vs. lease
- Research vehicles
- List needs: size, seats, cargo, fuel economy, drivetrain
- Compare models, trims, and packages
- Read reliability ratings and owner reviews
- Estimate total cost of ownership: insurance, fuel, maintenance, depreciation
- Get insurance quotes for the shortlisted models
- Find inventory
- Search dealer inventory online
- Use the manufacturer build-and-price tool
- Identify 2-3 dealerships to contact
- Request out-the-door price quotes from multiple dealers by email
- Test drive the top choices
- Negotiate
- Negotiate on total price, not monthly payment
- Review every fee and add-on line by line
- Get the final offer in writing
- Arrange financing
- Compare dealer financing against the pre-approval
- Finalize loan term and rate
- Handle trade-in (if applicable)
- Get independent appraisals (CarMax, Carvana, etc.)
- Negotiate the trade-in separately from the purchase
- Close the deal
- Read the purchase contract carefully before signing
- Decline or accept extended warranty and add-ons deliberately
- Sign paperwork
- Take delivery
- Inspect the car inside and out
- Verify all features and accessories work
- Confirm registration and temporary tags
- After purchase
- Add the car to your insurance policy before driving off the lot
- Title and register the vehicle with the DMV
- Schedule the first service and set maintenance reminders
- File all documents together
Yeah... it dumped every possible thing you could do to buy a car. And it is difficult to say whether this is organized sensibly. It's just slop.
Separate, however, from Focus, is courtesy:
AI does not play nicely with the web
It is well documented that AI is not courteous when it comes to consuming the web:
- Robots.txt not respected
- Scraping content aggressively for training
- Agents using a disproportiate number of resources
If you use AI or automated scripts, we will detect it, and you will be expected to pay a standard rate to unlock ratelimits for your lists.
Humans are never as aggressive as AI, and AI use needs to pay its share if it's going to aggressively occupy our server infrastructure.
