Jatabag is a small, independent, experimental project.

It exists because the tools meant to organize our work kept becoming the work: lists that needed grooming, priorities constantly shifting, backlogs that warranted cleanup tasks of their own.

It was all tiresome, and bordered on madness.

And fortunately, that is now past.

Jatabag does one thing: enhances Focus. You break work down by indenting it into a task tree, and the Focus View shows you only the tasks at the bottom of each branch - the ones nothing else is waiting on. Traits refine that further: a task can be snoozed until it matters, given a deadline, or held back until another task is finished.

What it deliberately does not do

The reasoning behind the app doubles as a list of things it refuses to add.

There is no priority field. A priority label does not say when a task needs to be done, and it stops being true the moment anything around it changes. Order of operations lives in the tree instead.

It deliberately does not require authentication. There is no signup, no account, and no email required to start. (Note that this necessitates all trees being publicly accessible, so keep the links to your trees private).

There is no vendor lock-in. Every tree is plaintext, readable and exportable whenever you want it, including into some other app.

Who runs it

Jatabag is maintained by a small team that would rather let the project be judged on its own terms than attach names to it.
